Circular hike Anemotia

1x1-pixel Circular hike Anemotia

Come and join us on the beautiful and varied circular walk starting and finishing in the mountain village of Anemotia. Before leaving the village, or after the walk, a short visit to the late-byzantine church of St George is nearly a ‘must’. It’s one of the most beautiful churches of Lesvos, but relatively unknown by the island’s inhabitants, and is situated in the old Turkish neighbourhood of the village.

While in Anemotia, the big church of the ‘metamorfosi tou Sotiri’, would also be worth seeing, as it’s the only church with an iconostasis made from the local stones. We start by climbing up for about one hour on an agricultural road, while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the area ‘Kali Langada’.From above we have a view of Monastirelli, the small monastery (‘entrance of the Holy Mary’) that we will visit during the last part of the walk.

The landscape changes from olive groves and fields with sheep to a lovely and unique forest with black pine trees and – in spring – the golden-flowered rhododendron luteum.

When we return to the village after our visit to Monastirelli, we will reward ourselves with a nice meal with local products and wine in one of the villages kafeneions.
